A survivor of the cigar boom, Rocky Patel has outlasted his competition with unrivaled persistence on his quest for perfection. His cigars are the result of blending tobaccos from various regions to produce the perfect blend, and a marked emphasis on quality control. The Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 was the first cigar to bear the Rocky Patel name. Smooth, well-balanced and nutty, this cigar is made with 12 year old Honduran broadleaf wrapper. The Vintage 1990 has been rated 92 by Cigar Aficionado and twice featured in the magazine’s “Top 25 Cigars of the Year”. – Cigar Scanner

When I first started getting into cigars I was introduced to the Rocky Patel brand by some employees at The Wharf (located in Beavercreek, Ohio), and I have made quite an effort in trying every cigar made by Rocky Patel since. So far I haven’t smoked a bad cigar by Rocky Patel. The Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 is no exception, I first tried this stogie on a family vacation down in Tennessee. I was sitting on the deck of a lake house over seeing the sunrise over beautiful Norris Lake, while enjoying a nice morning cup of Joe. There’s just something about puffing on a fine cigar first thing in the morning while overlooking quite a relaxing view.
Now for the review, the Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 is definitely smooth and has a sweet, creamy and nutty flavor, with a hint of vanilla that goes great with coffee. It’s a nice slow smoke, so make sure you have the time to sit down and really enjoy the full flavor of the cigar.
The appearance of the Vintage 1990 gives it a classic look that I find to be very fitting for this cigar. The aroma is quite nice and not overwhelming and you get a hint of spice through the smoke, but not so much in the taste.
Now the burn is uneven at times and you may have to correct the burn throughout to get that perfect even burn. The cigar however, still holds a solid ash.
The Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 is definitely one of my favorite cigars to date and it is no wonder that it has made the top 25 cigars of the year twice by Cigar Aficionado. I would recommend this cigar to anyone that enjoys medium to full-body cigars.
